Wolverhampton Evening Preview

Another Wolverhampton card where things will look straightforward for about five seconds before reality intervenes. Around here it’s rarely about finding the best horse — it’s about finding the one who gets the right run, carries a workable weight, and isn’t asked the question too early.

16:55 Wolverhampton – Sorted

Sorted looks the most obvious starting point on the card. He carries around 9st 7lb, which is only a small rise from his latest run, and not enough to suggest the handicapper has suddenly lost patience with him.

From the James Owen yard, with a rider who tends to keep things uncomplicated, he should be ridden positively enough to avoid trouble. If he gets into a rhythm early and isn’t forced wide turning in, he may simply prove too solid for these.

He’s the type who doesn’t rely on things falling perfectly — which, at this track, is a very useful quality.

17:30 Wolverhampton – Kipp Kelly

Kipp Kelly looks interesting at the prices, carrying around 9st 4lb, very similar to his latest run, so no extra burden to deal with.

From the Alice Haynes yard, with Kieran O’Neill likely to ride, he should be delivered late. That could suit if the pace holds up, although that does rely on everything opening up at exactly the right moment — which, as ever, is the tricky part.

If he gets the gaps, he could go close. If he doesn’t, he’ll be finishing full of running and everyone will say “unlucky” afterwards.

18:30 Wolverhampton – Flickas Girl

Flickas Girl could be one to keep on side, carrying around 9st 2lb, which puts her a couple of pounds better off than some of these rivals.

From the Tony Carroll yard, with a jockey likely to take a bit more weight off, she’s effectively even lighter than the card suggests. That could make a difference if this turns into a proper test late on.

She’s not one who will be doing much early, but if things begin to fall apart in front of her, she could be the one picking up the pieces.

19:00 Wolverhampton – Dr Ali

Dr Ali looks a solid contender, carrying around 9st 6lb, which is very similar to his most recent outing.

From the George Boughey yard, with Billy Loughnane likely in the saddle, he should get a good early position. If he turns for home in touch, he may not need to improve much.

The type who does everything right — which sounds simple, but is surprisingly rare in races like this.

19:30 Wolverhampton – American Bay

American Bay looks a strong option to close things out. He carries around 9st 5lb, which is broadly in line with his last run and suggests he remains fairly treated.

From the David O’Meara yard, with Daniel Tudhope likely to ride, he should be positioned just off the pace. If he’s still travelling turning in, he could be the one with the most left.

At Wolverhampton, that’s usually enough — provided you haven’t used it all up getting there.

Best Bet of the Day

16:55 Wolverhampton – Sorted

Comes here in form, carries a workable weight, and looks tactically straightforward.

In a race full of variables, he’s the one with the fewest.
