Afternoon Racing Preview – Newcastle, Lingfield & Curragh

A proper scatter of meetings this afternoon — Newcastle’s long straight demanding patience, Lingfield demanding luck in running, and the Curragh quietly reminding everyone that class still matters. Plenty of these look well enough treated… but only a few will actually take advantage of it.

13:50 Newcastle – Ten Cat Harry

Ten Cat Harry looks a lively outsider, carrying around 9st 2lb, which puts him a few pounds lighter than some of these.

From the Brian Ellison yard, with Ben Robinson likely to ride, he should be delivered late. Newcastle’s straight suits that style — provided you don’t leave yourself too much to do.

At the price, you’re not asking for perfection… just that he’s still running when others begin to question their life choices.

14:40 Lingfield – Dark Ace

Dark Ace looks fairly treated, carrying around 9st 5lb, which is very similar to recent runs.

From the David Evans yard, with Rossa Ryan likely aboard, he should be ridden to sit handy. Around Lingfield, that’s usually half the job done — the other half is finding a gap when you need one.

If he gets a clean run, he could go very close. If he doesn’t… well, you’ll know about it immediately.

15:00 Newcastle – Tyrrhenian Sea / The Lost King

Tyrrhenian Sea looks the more interesting at the weights, carrying around 9st 3lb, which brings him slightly below some of these.

From the Charlie Johnston yard, with Joe Fanning likely to ride, he should be ridden positively. If he gets into a rhythm, he could take some passing.

The Lost King, meanwhile, carries around 9st 6lb and brings a slightly stronger profile. From a yard that places these types well, with a jockey likely to hold him up, he could be the one finishing stronger.

This looks like one where one controls things early… and the other tries to spoil it late.

15:15 Lingfield – Wyld Bill

Wyld Bill looks a proper each-way angle, carrying around 9st 2lb, which gives him a bit of an edge at the weights.

From the Tony Carroll yard, with William Carson likely riding, he should be kept in a steady rhythm. If the race falls apart late, he could be one of those picking up the pieces.

He won’t look dangerous early — which, at Lingfield, is often exactly what you want.

15:42 Curragh – Perry Mason

Perry Mason looks a solid contender, carrying around 9st 4lb, which is workable in this company.

From the Aidan O’Brien yard, with Ryan Moore likely to ride, he should be positioned wherever Moore decides is best — which is usually the right place.

If he travels into the race comfortably, he may simply have too much class for these. The Curragh tends to reward that… eventually.

15:50 Lingfield – Talls Evolvere

Talls Evolvere looks another interesting one at a price, carrying around 9st 3lb, which keeps him competitive.

From a yard that knows how to land these races, with a jockey likely to ride patiently, he could be one of those staying on late if things fall into place.

The challenge, as ever here, is making sure there’s actually somewhere to go when the time comes.

16:10 Newcastle – Regal Ulixes

Regal Ulixes looks one of the more straightforward runners, carrying around 9st 7lb, very similar to his latest run.

From the George Boughey yard, with Billy Loughnane likely riding, he should be positioned just off the pace. If he’s still travelling late, he may simply prove too strong.

The kind who does everything right — which is reassuring… but never entirely relaxing.

16:42 Newcastle – Artisan Dancer / Duke Of Oxford

Artisan Dancer is the wild one here, carrying around 9st 2lb and coming in at a big price.

From a yard that can pop up unexpectedly, with a rider likely to sit and wait, he could be the one picking up tired rivals if things collapse.

Duke Of Oxford, however, carries closer to 9st 6lb and brings the more reliable profile. From a stronger yard, with a jockey who knows how to time things here, he should be thereabouts.

One is chaos, the other is control — and Newcastle tends to offer both.

17:00 Lingfield – Wonder

Wonder looks a solid option to close, carrying around 9st 5lb, which is very similar to recent efforts.

From the Andrew Balding yard, with Oisin Murphy likely booked, he should be ridden to sit handy. If he turns for home in the right place, he may not need much more.

At Lingfield, being in the right place at the right time often makes you look far better than you actually are.

Best Bet of the Day

16:10 Newcastle – Regal Ulixes

Carries a workable weight, comes from a yard in form, and has a jockey who tends to get these spot on.

In a day full of “ifs”, he looks the one with the fewest.
