Wolverhampton Evening Preview
Wolverhampton again this evening, where races are often decided less by brilliance and more by who hasn’t made a mistake by the time they straighten up. It’s a track that rewards rhythm, positioning and patience — and punishes anything asked the question too early.
16:50 Wolverhampton – Fistral Beach
Fistral Beach looks a solid starting point, carrying around 9st 6lb, very similar to his latest run, so there’s no sudden rise to contend with.
From the Mick Appleby yard, with Luke Morris likely to ride, he should be positioned handy enough without doing too much. Appleby’s runners tend to be well placed here and Morris is not one to get caught napping around this track.
If he’s still travelling turning in, he may simply outstay these — assuming nothing comes from absolutely nowhere, which Wolverhampton does occasionally enjoy producing.
18:30 Wolverhampton – Samra Star
Samra Star looks interesting at a bigger price, carrying around 9st 2lb, which puts her a couple of pounds lighter than some of the main rivals.
From the Tony Carroll yard, with Jack Doughty likely taking off a few pounds, she’s effectively even better off at the weights than it first appears. That could make a difference late on if this turns into a proper test.
She’s the type who won’t be doing much early, but if things collapse in front of her, she could be one of those suddenly appearing where it matters.
19:30 Wolverhampton – East Tyrone / Piperstown
East Tyrone looks one of the more straightforward options, carrying around 9st 5lb, which is very similar to his recent run.
From the David O’Meara yard, with Daniel Tudhope likely riding, he should get a good position just off the pace. If he turns for home in touch, he may not need to find much more.
Piperstown, meanwhile, carries roughly 9st 3lb and is slightly better off at the weights. From a yard that does well here and with a rider likely to delay the challenge, he could be the one finishing stronger if things fall apart late.
This looks like one where timing — rather than raw ability — will decide it.
20:00 Wolverhampton – Legendsoftheland
Legendsoftheland looks capable of going close, carrying around 9st 4lb, which is broadly in line with recent efforts.
From the Ian Williams yard, with Richard Kingscote likely to ride, he should be ridden with a bit of patience. Williams’ runners often improve with a well-timed ride and Kingscote tends to judge these races well.
If he gets a clear run into the straight, he could be one of those still finding while others begin to feel the effort.
20:30 Wolverhampton – Betsen
Betsen looks a strong contender to finish the evening. He carries around 9st 7lb, a small rise from his latest run, but not enough to suggest he’s been harshly treated.
From the Stuart Williams yard, with Marco Ghiani likely in the saddle, he should be kept in a good rhythm before being asked to go about things late. Ghiani is particularly good at delivering these types at the right moment — which, around here, is usually everything.
If he’s still on the bridle turning in, he’ll take some passing.
Best Bet of the Day
20:30 Wolverhampton – Betsen
Small rise, solid profile, and from a yard/jockey combination that tends to get these right more often than not.
He looks the one least likely to give you a surprise — which, in these races, is about as strong a compliment as you can give.
