Evening Racing Preview – Kempton & Wolverhampton
A proper all-weather evening where things tend to look predictable until about two furlongs out — then suddenly half the field hit a wall and the other half remember they’re racehorses. Wolverhampton especially has a habit of rewarding patience… and punishing enthusiasm.
15:10 Kempton – Jazzy Baby
Jazzy Baby looks a solid contender, carrying around 9st 5lb, which is very similar to recent runs, so no sudden pressure from the handicapper.
From the Richard Hannon yard, with Sean Levey likely to ride, she should be positioned just off the pace. Kempton suits that style — travel, wait, then go.
If she gets the timing right, she may not need to improve much. If she doesn’t… she’ll look unlucky, which is Kempton’s favourite outcome.
17:30 Wolverhampton – Fircombe Hall
Fircombe Hall looks interesting at a bigger price, carrying around 9st 2lb, which gives him a slight edge over a few of these.
From the David Evans yard, with Rossa Ryan likely booked, he should be ridden with patience. If the race falls apart late — and it often does — he could be one of those passing tired rivals.
He’s not the obvious one… but then again, the obvious one doesn’t always win here.
18:30 Wolverhampton – Arcturus Flame
Arcturus Flame looks one of the more straightforward runners, carrying around 9st 6lb, very much in line with recent efforts.
From the George Boughey yard, with Billy Loughnane likely riding, he should be positioned handy. If he turns for home in touch, he may simply prove the most reliable option.
The kind who does everything right — which immediately makes you suspicious, because it rarely stays that simple.
19:00 Wolverhampton – Bergamo Gold
Bergamo Gold could be one to keep on side, carrying around 9st 4lb, which puts him slightly better off than some of these.
From the Ian Williams yard, with Richard Kingscote likely to ride, he should be delivered late. If the pace is strong enough, he could be the one finishing best.
The danger is getting there too late — Wolverhampton has a habit of making you wish for just one more stride.
19:30 Wolverhampton – Layla Liz
Layla Liz looks a lively outsider, carrying around 9st 3lb, which is a workable mark in this company.
From the Tony Carroll yard, with William Carson likely riding, she should be kept in a steady rhythm. If she’s still travelling turning in, she could be one of those sneaking into the frame.
Not the obvious winner — but very much the type to make things interesting.
20:00 Wolverhampton – Man Is King
Man Is King looks a strong contender to close things out, carrying around 9st 7lb, which is a slight rise but not enough to stop him if in the same form.
From the Stuart Williams yard, with Marco Ghiani likely to ride, he should be positioned just off the pace. If he’s still on the bridle turning in, he could be the one with the most left.
At Wolverhampton, that’s usually enough… provided you haven’t used it all getting there.
Best Bet of the Day
18:30 Wolverhampton – Arcturus Flame
Solid profile, workable weight, and from a yard/jockey combination that tends to get these right.
In a race where others may need things to fall perfectly, he looks the one who simply needs to run his race — which sounds easy, but rarely is.
