Evening Racing Preview – Lingfield & Newcastle

A proper mix again this evening, with Lingfield asking for balance and positioning, and Newcastle asking for patience and stamina. Between the two, it’s the usual story — get the fractions right and everything looks easy, get them wrong and you spend the last furlong watching something you backed cruise past you.

14:42 Lingfield – Wisetanck

Wisetanck looks one of the more straightforward runners early on, carrying around 9st 7lb, very similar to his latest run.

From the John Butler yard, with Oisin Murphy likely to ride, he should get a smooth, prominent position. Murphy around Lingfield tends to keep things simple — which is often the smartest approach.

If he turns for home in the right place, he may not need to improve much. At this track, that’s usually enough.

16:25 Newcastle – Dream Illusion

Dream Illusion looks a solid contender, carrying around 9st 5lb, which is broadly unchanged from recent runs.

From the Kevin Ryan yard, with Kevin Stott likely to ride, he should be ridden patiently. Newcastle’s straight tends to reward those who wait — even if it doesn’t feel like it at halfway.

If he’s still travelling two furlongs out, he could be one of those finishing strongest.

16:42 Lingfield – Royal Jet

Royal Jet looks interesting at a price, carrying around 9st 4lb, which is slightly lower than a couple of recent runs.

From the Mick Appleby yard, with Rossa Ryan likely aboard, he should be delivered late. If the gaps come — always the big “if” here — he could be one of those suddenly appearing where it matters.

Lingfield has a habit of rewarding patience… right up until it doesn’t.

17:17 Lingfield – Forglen

Forglen lines up carrying around 9st 6lb, very similar to recent outings.

From a yard that tends to keep things consistent, with a jockey who knows how to navigate Lingfield’s turns, he should get a sensible trip. If he’s in touch turning in, he could have a say.

The key here is simple — not getting stuck behind something that isn’t going anywhere.

17:30 Newcastle – Lord Capulet

Lord Capulet looks a strong contender, carrying around 9st 6lb, very much in line with his latest run.

From the George Boughey yard, with Billy Loughnane likely riding, he should be positioned just off the pace. If he’s still travelling late, he may simply outstay these.

Newcastle tends to reward the patient ride — which is reassuring, as long as the patience doesn’t become hesitation.

18:00 Newcastle – Yorkshire Glory

Yorkshire Glory looks one of the better bets on the card, carrying around 9st 7lb, which is a small rise but not enough to put him under pressure.

From the Tim Easterby yard, with David Allan likely aboard, he should be ridden positively. If he gets into a rhythm early, he may prove very hard to peg back.

He looks the type who doesn’t need excuses — just the same run again.

19:30 Newcastle – Saytarr

Saytarr looks a solid option, carrying around 9st 5lb, which is very similar to his recent run.

From the Charlie Johnston yard, with Joe Fanning likely to ride, he should be ridden prominently. If he gets first run, he could be difficult to catch.

The danger, as always at Newcastle, is going a stride too soon — which tends to be noticed immediately and punished accordingly.

20:00 Newcastle – Best Rate / Cargin Bhui

Best Rate looks one of the more straightforward contenders, carrying around 9st 6lb and coming here in consistent form.

From the Grant Tuer yard, with Sam James likely riding, he should be kept in a handy position. If he’s still travelling late, he’ll be involved.

Cargin Bhui, carrying around 9st 3lb, is slightly better off at the weights and from a yard that does well with these types. With a patient ride likely, he could be the one finishing strongest.

This looks like one where one travels best… and the other finishes best — which is rarely helpful when you’re trying to pick just one.

Best Bet of the Day

18:00 Newcastle – Yorkshire Glory

Carries a manageable rise, comes from a yard that excels with these types, and looks tactically uncomplicated with a jockey who will keep things simple.

In a card full of moving parts, he looks the one least likely to create his own problems.
